Good tea is grown, and good tea is also managed well.As the saying goes: “Three parts planting, seven parts management,” winter management is particularly important. Good winter management ensures better quality in the coming year. Currently, regions across Guizhou are conducting tea garden winter management in an orderly manner. Let's take a look together.
Winter Management Training in Qiannan Tea Gardens
Recently, on-site training sessions for autumn-winter management of tea gardens have been held successively in key tea-producing counties (cities) throughout the Qiannan Prefecture. Led by the Qiannan Prefecture Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, experts from organizations such as the Prefectural Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Guizhou College of Economics and Trade, and Qiannan National Vocational Technology College were dispatched to form five teams. These teams have been traveling to tea gardens in various counties (cities) of Qiannan to provide on-site guidance. This aims to improve the management level of tea gardens across the region, strengthen autumn-winter management, ensure the safety and quality of tea, and promote the enhancement of tea industry quality, increase the efficiency of tea enterprises, and raise the income of tea farmers.
Maitian Tea Garden Winter Management Training
To promote high-quality autumn-winter management of Maitian County's tea gardens in 2022 and continuously improve the quality of tea gardens, the Maitian County Tea Industry Development Center has planned preparatory work for winter management.
The training was conducted through on-site demonstrations, allowing participating tea farmers to directly learn techniques such as Canopy Pruning, “clearing the rows and base,” ditch digging and fertilization, and the application of chemical agents to seal the garden. This will further assist in improving the quality and efficiency of tea gardens county-wide.

Why is Winter Management Important for Tea Gardens?
1
Winter Fertilization
Follow the growth patterns of tea plants to ensure high-quality, high-yield, and efficient production
According to the growth and development patterns of tea plants, during the autumn and winter seasons, the above-ground parts of tea plants gradually stop growing and enter a dormant period. However, the underground parts become more active and enter the peak period of root activity for the entire year. At this time, the root system's absorption capacity is greatly enhanced, and there is a strong demand for nutrients. Timely fertilization can ensure that the necessary nutrients are available for root activity before winter sets in, storing sufficient nutrients for the emergence of Spring Tea, ensuring plump and flavorful buds for the following year, achieving improvements in yield, quality, and benefits.
Winter Pruning
Restore the functional capabilities of tea plants, enhance the Tree's resistance to cold, and construct a high-yielding and high-quality crown
Due to long-term and multiple rounds of picking during the tea production season, tea plants consume a large amount of effective nutrients, leading to widespread damage to the plants. The picking surface is characterized by dense but small buds, uneven heights
