The American Consulate in Xiamen's Gulangyu, Thriving on Tea The Boston Tea Party in December 1773 is often cited as the beginning of the American Revolution. Where did the Chinese tea come from? Was it from the port of Guangzhou or another port at that time? According to my current knowledge, scholars in China have not paid attention to this detail. In 1925, the English-language magazine "The China Weekly Review" (also known as "Millard's Review") published in Shanghai carried an article titled "Xiamen Tea Initiated the American Revolution," which quoted information from the National Geographic Society of America: "It was in Xiamen, one of the world’s main tea ports, where tea loaded onto ships in December 1773 led to the American Revolution a few months later." "Few people know that the port of Xiamen has a place in the history of the American Revolution." **The Starting Point** During modern times, the black tea consumed by Europeans mainly came from Fujian tea regions centered around the Wuyi Mountains. The Depth of Life Seen in the Simple Clarity of Tea
"We cannot determine the length of our lives, but we can decide its height." Height is depth; the higher your perspective, the more distinct your understanding of things becomes compared to others. Therefore, the depth of one's knowledge and perspective determines their attitude and approach to problem-solving. The same applies to tea; typically when pouring tea, it is customary to fill the cup only seven-tenths full, leaving room for human connection. It's not hard to understand that a cup filled to only seven-tenths capacity prevents the person holding the teacup from being scalded by hot tea, while also conveying the message that there should always be some room left for flexibility. The modest amount of tea served, in the context of national etiquette, is a sign of respect for the guest, and in the context of tea ceremony, it invites guests to savor the flavor slowly, enjoying seven-tenths of the tea and three-tenths of its aroma. In a broader sense, "modesty" in Chinese culture connotes appropriateness, restraint, refinement, and humility. Being humble and courteous in demeanor and leaving room for flexibility in actions are manifestations of this concept. The modest serving of tea further imparts life lessons. Those who appreciate…- 0

“Tracing the Ancient Tea Ship Route: The Time-Honored Path Connecting Hong Kong and Macao, Reaching Rivers and Seas Beyond (Part 2)”
War-Time Exports Plunge into a Lull After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Shanghai and Guangzhou fell to the enemy, and China's tea export market shifted to Hong Kong. In 1938, the National Government's Ministry of Finance Trade Committee implemented a unified purchase and sales system for tea nationwide, which concentrated exports through Hong Kong, causing a surge in Hong Kong's tea export volume. According to statistics recorded in the book China's Tea Trade and Tea Industry Finance, the total amount of tea exported in 1937 was 30,661,700 yuan, 30,787,300 yuan in 1938, and reached 33,054,100 yuan in 1939. Traditional tea shops in Hong Kong are mostly found in Sai Wan and Sheung Wan areas. However, this prosperity didn't last long. In December 1941, the Pacific War broke out. Hong Kong and various regions in Southeast Asia were occupied, leading to a plunge in tea consumption in these areas. China's tea exports through Hong Kong also entered a state of paralysis. Due to the temporary interruption of the tea shipping line from Wuzhou to Hong Kong, exports of Liubao tea to Hong Kong were virtually cut off. After the end of World War II, the prospects for Hong Kong's foreign…- 0
